Now heres the first new glimpses of their upcoming album Oceanic Feelin'

From Andy Roche of Black Vatican:

Black Vatican has a new LP coming out soon. The new LP will be called Oceanic Feelin'. The LP reflects our interests over the last couple of years, for me, the big influence is Colette Magny. Her record "Repression" is an amazing political record, sort of free jazz, and maybe "extended chanson", if there is such a thing. Owen has really gotten deep into micro-tonal stuff and that's sort of hiding out in a lot of the songs. We started as a rock band, we got interested in dread and the stuff got electronic, and now I don't know, this new LP is sort of about fear, cosmic scaled fear.

New Sacred Bones Titles

The Bitters
Have A Nap Hotel EP

Hot on the heels of their debut Mexican Summer long-player, The Bitters - consisting of Aerin Fogel and the ever-prolific Ben Cook (Roommates, Young Governor, Fucked Up) - bring us their Have a Nap Hotel EP. This Toronto-based duo have built a name for themselves forging their self-coined "cave pop" genre, which merges elements of 50s melodies and dark post-punk instrumentals with just a hint of flannel. Their debut 12" EP Wooden Glove was released last spring on Captured Tracks and sold out shortly thereafter, having been instantly well-received among tough critics and keen listeners alike. Cook's jangly guitars stay back in the cut and let Fogel's vocals (and the occasional fuzzy lead, saxophone, synth line, and handclap) wash over the tunes. Their collaborative work appears live with the help of drummer Jonah Falco (Fucked Up, Career Suicide) and a rotation of starry guest bassists.

Amen Dunes
Murder Dull Mind EP

Recorded while Damon McMahon was living as an expatriate in China, Amen Dunes presents seven new stunning works of sunlit haziness. During the two years he lived abroad, he lived most of the time in an apartment on the north end of Beijing. He tracked these songs one summer in that apartment. With the exception of "Diane" and "Murder Dull Mind," all of these songs were recorded in one take and are completely improvisational; on repeated listens though, there is a pop-ness amidst the improvisation. The title track in particular, a melodic mantra-like work could certainly function on its own as a single. Although the songs have a bit less pre-written structure than Amen Dunes' previous work on the Locust label, they are still every bit as miraculous. The geographical influence on his work central to both writing and recording conditions is evident here as these songs are way more open, and generally more free than his debut Dia (recorded in 2006 in a Catskills cabin) was. A bit less psych freak out and a bit more dark folk vibe throughout.

Look for these new entries into Sacred Bones' EP series plus new 7"s from Electric Bunnies and Mac Blackout out on July 27th. MT Work

The ridiculously prolific Bay Area band Thee Oh Sees are back with another full-length long-player. Warm Slime is guaranteed to please fans of their whacked-out garage / psych / punk jams.

Recorded by Sacramento sultan of sound Chris Woodhouse, Warm Slime carries on in the same tradition as the group's previous In The Red release, Help, showcasing their more electrified and rocking side, in comparison to other recent home-recorded releases. The centerpiece is undoubtedly the mind-bending title track, which clocks in at nearly 14 minutes and takes up the entirety of the album's first side. It's a psychedelic epic of "Inna Gadda Da Vida" proportions! John Dwyer's guitar playing is at its quadra-spazzed best here, and the vocal interplay with Brigid Dawson gives it a B-52s-at-their-least-cheesy-crossed-with-the-Troggs vibe. The results are stunning.

Sun Araw - On Patrol

Album details on the upcoming Sun Araw record have arrived. His recordings under his own name represent a unique brand of solo multi-track recording with a seamless integrity; through a skillful use of instrumentation and recording technique, Garbes eschews notions of low fidelity for songs reminiscent of traditional American garage rock produced in the haze of an early 90’s UK aesthetic. Genuine pop songs, cloaked in a comforting wash of reverb, as if Lou Reed had done a record for Creation; more ecstatic than obstructed Garbes’ voice is a refreshing one outside the continuum of the contemporary four-track bedroom pop. Consisting of former Sisters (Parts Unknown Records) and Celebration members, Broken Water's sound seems to resound in the rainy coastal woodlands that they are surrounded by. Dense walls of slow swirling distortion breath out into moments of cold syrupy magma and reverb drenched beauty. Droning post punk bass grooves build foundations for constantly evolving guitar riffing and somber vocal passages, a subtle psychedelic sound as heavy as it is lite, as dark as it is colorful, and as deep as it is wide. Broken Water's dreamy take on hazy pastoral sonic exploration is as unique as it is nostalgic and provides endless amounts of killer listening. The album will be Graham's first release since the dissolution of RTFO Bandwagon, the elegantly primitive Columbus, OH folk band that most recently released Dums Will Survive (March 2009) on Texas' Dull Knife Records.

While RTFO Bandwagon heavily reiterated the elements already present in Graham's guitar frameworks with the bass, drums, and even the vocal melodies, Swarming Branch takes a more delicate approach. Throughout Good Word, each instrument plays only one note at a time, freeing up space in the mix and ensuring that every note is intentional.

To realize this detailed new sound, Graham brought in drummer Ryan Jewell (Terribly Empty Pockets, Pink Reason, Psychedelic Horseshit) and piano wizard Dane Terry. A number of other musicians come and go over the course of the record, including bassist Chris Burney (the Sun) and experimental composer Larry Marotta on slide guitar.

Order HERE

Viva L'American Death Ray Music - Behold! Vampires - Split 12"

Every day’s as new as you want it to be so take up the torch and light something unlit. Definite off-the-grid mentalities prevail on this genre-dissolving split 12” between San Fran anima soul voyager Leyna Noel aka Psychic Reality and So-Cal acid-jazz crate-digger LA Vampires. Noel’s toured the states coast-to-coast and dropped a couple potent tape/CDR effigies in the past year but this is her vinyl debut and it captures everything searing and singular about her live alchemy in glowing, glorious detail. Four inter-flowing songs of tone-float piano keys, bedroom drum machines, and white light amplifier vox. Trance-damaged and truth-seeking. LA Vampires’ side madlibs through a more mercurial matrix, using slowed/screwed tapes, boombox Casio FX, low end theories, and bleached voice patterns to conjure a reverb chamber’s worth of dance floor mirages. Future collabs with Zola Jesus and Sun Araw should expound her rhythm method mission. Abuse yr illusion. Black vinyl LPs in glossy jackets with a boldly disrobed duo cover portrait by Caitlin C. Mitchell.

Edition of 450.

Order HERE

Heather Murray - Jailhouse Rock

It’s been a while since Scorces sorceress, Jandek collaborator, and Volcanic Tongue branch manager Heather Leigh has ventured out on vinyl under her own name. And it may be a while longer, as Jailhouse Rock is in fact a wax reissue of a long OOP 2006 cassette classic on Michigan crud factory Fag Tapes. It was a fave of ours that year (and every year), so it feels extra celebratory to be able to offer up a freshly remastered (by Pete Swanson) LP edition of the album for global re-appreciation. Sprawling, long-form descents/ascents into mythic electric disorientation, powered by her trademark recipe of FX-soaked pedal steel and voice. Jailhouse feels loosely more aligned with a mid-aughts drone/noise aesthetic than the outsider dirt road Americana of her Devil If You Can Hear Me LP (also on NNF), but the distinction is a slight one. Side A swims in swooping sheets of vox and tempestuous wind tunnel dynamics before slowly dying away to wheezing disembodied harmonica. The B piece begins in a more overtly beautiful mode, a trinity of crystalline notes picked and stretched until they’re transformed into a rapturous sky of textural distortion. Sensual and vertigo-inducing in equal measure. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with brand new paint/collage artwork by Heath Moerland (of Sick Llama, Slither, Odd Clouds, etc).

Edition of 400.

Order HERE

Plus keep an eye out for these releases soon:

Sun Araw "On Patrol" CD/2xLP (NNF187)
Pocahaunted "Make It Real" CD/LP (NNF188)
High Wolf "Ascension" LP (NNF189)
Magic Lantern "Platoon" CD/LP (NNF190)
Magic Lantern "Showstopper" 7" (NNF191)

New HoZac on the way!

Following in the wake of the recently released Medications LP and singles from Mickey, Nerve City, Myelin Sheaths, Mess Folk and more the mighty HoZac pushes on with some hotly anticipated 2010 releases.

Expect new 7"s from Box Elders, Fey Gods, Burning Yellows, Hobby Girl and of course the upcoming LPs from Dum Dum Girls and Woven Bones. Secondly the well loved (at least by RSTB) side project from guitarist Ripley has finally yielded a full length album. Escape is out 2/16. More details and pre-order information below:

Wooden Shjips - Vol. 2

Strap in for travels beyond the galaxy to tranced-out cosmic bliss! Sick Thirst presents Vol. 2, the second compilation of hard-to-find Wooden Shjips tracks. Vol. 2 digs deep to collect the band's Sub Pop and Mexican Summer singles, two self-released European tour singles, and a track from Yeti magazine, for nearly 44 minutes of fuzzed-out psych jams.

Not just for completists, Vol. 2 contains the essential live standards "Loose Lips," "Death's Not Your Friend (Live)", and "I Hear the Vibrations (E-Z Version)," plus savage covers of Neil Young's "Vampire Blues" and Serge Gainsbourg's "Contact."

1. Inspired initially by the legendary John Coltrane and Rashied Ali, Moon Duo counts such variant groups as Silver Apples, Royal Trux, Moolah, Suicide, and Cluster as touchstones.

Utilizing primarily guitar, keyboards, percussion, and vocals, the pair plays space against form to create a primordial and disorienting sonic stew. They released two acclaimed records in 2009: the Love on the Sea 12-inch single on Sick Thirst and the Killing Time EP on Sacred Bones. Escape, their debut long-player on Woodsist, marks the fullest realization yet of the young group's evolving sound.

Pre-Order: HERE

Happy Birthday // King Tuff

RSTB faves King Tuff have been signed by Sub Pop... sort of. After shattering the Bay Area underground as a frantic one-man band that the local crowd and press couldn't get enough of, Segall has now given up the solo act for a three piece that destroys sonic and melodic boundaries with manic glee. The new live setup is a better reflection of his studio work, which generally starts with his one-man-band setup and builds from there. Exploring the space between Cro-Magnon fuzz and atmospheric acoustic psych, Lemons is the natural next step after his celebrated self-titled 2008 debut on Castle Face.

Gorgeous Johnny

The Skygreen Leopards have posted a couple of tracks from their upcoming record for Jagjaguwar entitled Gorgeous Johnny (out 7/21).
